Authorities Launch Online Transport Booking from Hotels to Masjid al-Haram for Umrah pilgrims

Pilgrims staying in approved hotels near Masjid al-Haram can book a vehicle from their hotel to the Grand Mosque online. The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque launched the service on 8 March 2026. The service runs through the General Authority's Unified Mobility Platform. The service offers 2 rituals, Tawaf only or full Umrah, and 2 routes: one-way to the Haram, or a full service with an escort back to the hotel. You book in the Tanaqol app or on the platform's website, and the service runs 24 hours a day. This guide covers the hotels included, the transport options, golf carts and wheelchairs inside the Grand Mosque, the booking steps and the reasons for the service.

Which Hotels Does the Hotel-to-Haram Transport Service Cover?

The hotel-to-Haram transport service covers approved hotels and facilities in the central area around Masjid al-Haram. The General Authority has not published the list in its announcement. The approved hotels appear in the app when you book. The service does not include all hotels in Makkah, so check the app for your hotel before you rely on the service.

The vehicle comes to your hotel entrance. Pilgrims no longer need to walk to the transport service points in the courtyards of the Grand Mosque to find a cart.

Note: Saudi Arabia is planning further changes in pilgrim transport, including travel from Jeddah to Mecca via flying taxi, as part of Vision 2030.

What Transport Options Does the Service Offer?

The service offers 2 ritual options and 2 route options.

  • Tawaf only: transport for the 7 circuits around the Kaaba.
  • full Umrah: transport for Tawaf and Sa'i together.
  • One-way route: from your hotel to the Haram.
  • Full service route: from your hotel, through the rites and back to your hotel, with an approved escort who drives the vehicle and stays with you.

The full service route suits elderly pilgrims, first-time visitors and disabled pilgrims, who travel with an escort from the hotel door until they return.

Golf Carts and Wheelchairs Inside the Grand Mosque

Inside the Grand Mosque, the Unified Mobility Platform offers 3 types of transport: electric golf carts, manual carts with an attendant and free manual carts for self-service. You can book each one for Tawaf, Sa'i or a full Umrah, by date and time, with electronic payment.

  • Online booking only for golf carts: manual golf cart bookings at the mosque stopped in March 2025. Golf cart seats are now booked through the platform.
  • Priority for elderly and disabled pilgrims: the platform gives priority to elderly pilgrims and pilgrims with disabilities. The General Authority asks pilgrims over 65 to book online.
  • Free for disabled pilgrims: pilgrims with disabilities can use the golf cart service points free of charge, with a companion, without booking in advance.
  • Golf cart stations: on the Ajyad Bridge and the Al Shubaikah Bridge.

The platform shows the fee for each paid service before you confirm a booking. The fees change from time to time.

How to Book Hotel-to-Haram Transport

To book hotel-to-Haram transport, use the Tanaqol app or the Unified Mobility Platform at https://carts.alharamain.gov.sa/. Booking takes 7 steps:

  1. Open the Tanaqol app or the platform website.
  2. Log in with your mobile number and the verification code sent by SMS.
  3. Choose "Transport from place of residence" and select your hotel. Add your room number, if asked.
  4. Choose the ritual: Tawaf only or full Umrah.
  5. Choose the route: one-way or full service.
  6. Check the cost, if one applies, and confirm.
  7. Wait at your hotel entrance. The confirmation shows the details of the vehicle and the escort.

The platform is available in 7 languages and supports login through Nafath, the Saudi national login service.

Why Has the Hotel-to-Haram Transport Facility Been Introduced?

The General Authority introduced the hotel-to-Haram transport facility to bring transport to the pilgrim's door. Before March 2026, pilgrims had to reach the service points in the courtyards of Masjid al-Haram to find a cart. The walk to the courtyard service points was hard for elderly pilgrims, people with disabilities, pilgrims with limited mobility and first-time visitors.

Online booking gives each pilgrim a time slot, which spreads demand through the day and the night. On the full service route, the escort guides pilgrims who do not know the way. The escort takes them to the Mataf, the Tawaf area around the Kaaba, then to Safa and Marwah, and back to their hotel.

Pilgrims staying in approved hotels near Masjid al-Haram can now book transport from their hotel online, for Tawaf only or full Umrah, one-way or with an escort. Check your hotel in the Tanaqol app before you travel, and book your slot as soon as you know your plans.
